Decorating your house is easy if you have an interior designer at your side ready to help you every step of the way. However, it is possible to do a great job with improving the overall look and feel of your home all on your own. DIY isn’t as hard as you might think. We have put together five simple ways you can update your home without professional assistance. When you have implemented one or more of these tips, you’ll be amazed by the difference it can make.

Add Color

Painting doesn’t mean days and days of painstaking brushwork. You can change the look of a room with just a little work. Consider using stencils or making designs with painter’s tape to add just a pop of color here or there. With color, a little goes a long way.

Window Treatments

New curtains or shades are one of the easiest ways to change the entire feel of a room. Light, gauzy curtains make a room feel summery and breezy. Heavy curtains can block the sun and help control your utility bills. Check out the options and see what a difference curtains can make.

Rearrange the Furniture

A simple DIY tip that won’t cost a dime is to rearrange your existing furniture. You can change the focus wall of a room and make a room feel completely different. It may take a little effort, but it won’t cost a dime to move around your furniture!

Try Sleek Home Security

If you are tired of looking at that clunky, dated home security system, why not update to something sleek and modern? There is no need to trade style for safety.

Look Up and Down

The floors and ceilings are often the last places people look when decorating. Consider rugs and new light fixtures. In the scheme of things, these are affordable additions, but make a significant impact on the appearance of a room.

As you can see, there are many ways to change up your home’s appearance quickly and easily. Don’t be afraid to jump in and get your hands a little dirty—DIY can be a lot of fun!
